Chapter 1

UPTIGHT PRINCESS

""ACCORDING TO SOURCES close to the couple, the wedding of the year between Ace Locke and Dylan Prescott will take place at Ace"s Beverly Hills estate in March. Expect a low-key affair for the notoriously private twosome."" Paige, friend and wedding planner extraordinaire, lowered the copy of Celebrity Gossip and arched a brow at us. "Really. Something you boys want to tell me""

Dylan rolled his eyes as he snatched the paper out of her hands and promptly tossed it into the trashcan. "You can"t believe anything in those rags, can you. What do they do, just sit around and make stuff up all day" I"d love to know who these so-called "sources" are."

"Well, Paige is the master at pulling off the impossible. Maybe she could throw something together in a month," I said, shooting a wink her way.

"Oh hell no." She stood up, smoothing down her fire-engine-red pencil skirt, and then wheeled over a luggage cart full of thick scrapbooks and magazines. As she began to unload them onto the table in front of me, my eyes grew wide.

"Are these""

"Wedding themes and ideas" Why, yes they are, Mr. Locke. You"re not getting a low-key anything if I"m in charge. And from our previous conversations, I am in charge, so I need you and your hot-ass fianc" over there to spend some time with these bad boys. But first, we need to nail down a venue and a timeline. I am pretty persuasive when I want to be, but I"m not a miracle worker. Although"I suppose name-dropping will come in handy in this case."

I flipped open one of the magazines, and when my eyes landed on flower arrangements, I felt the beginnings of a headache start. There were pink ones, cream ones, yellow ones, and every other color imaginable, plus some combinations I didn"t even realize were possible.

"Umm""

"That"s his freaked-out tone, just in case that isn"t obvious," Dylan said as he came around the kitchen island and sidled up close to me.

"I"m not freaking out. It"s just""

"Yes you are," Dylan said, aiming a blinding smile my way. "Every time we talk about this, you get this look on your face""

"No I don"t," I said. "What look""

"This holy shit look. Your eyes get wide, sweat breaks out on your forehead, and then we end up changing the subject." Dylan looked over at Paige, who was standing on the opposite side of the island, and said, "Ergo, we haven"t decided on anything."

"It"s not like I change the subject on purpose."

"Sure it"s not. There"s nothing wrong with being overwhelmed, Ace. That"s why we hired Paige."

"I"m not" Okay. Fine. There"s just so"so much to decide on. Flowers, food, music, people, not to mention the venue. I never even thought I"d get married, let alone have to sit down and pick out what kind of flowers I want at the ceremony."

"Oh, I also need you to pick them for the reception," Paige added.

"Not helping, Paige," Dylan said.

"Look," she said as she came around to stand on the other side of me. "You are paying me good money for my skills. So use me."

I turned my head to see the corner of her mouth twitch. "Use you, huh""

"In any way you would like. That"s an open invite to you too, Dylan."

"Why do I suddenly feel as though we"re talking about things beyond a wedding and a reception""

"Hey, I can also help with the wedding night"just saying. You can ask Dawson for a reference, if you like."

I stood up from the barstool and made my way over to the fridge to grab a beer. If ever there was a time to drink, this seemed like it. Paige had been trying to meet up with me and Dylan for the last few weeks to go over our "options," but we"d both been so busy with work that this was the first time we"d actually had together to sit down and talk about it. It was also the first time we"d spent more than twenty-four hours together in far too long.

"What is the most important thing"" Dylan asked. "Maybe if we go one step at a time instead of you giving us a massive list, it will feel less"daunting."

"Location," she said without hesitation. "We need to decide the wheres before anything else, and you have unlimited options. Want to stay in L.A." Somewhere up the coast" A destination wedding" Dylan, I know your family is in Florida, so that"s a possibility too. The sky"s the limit."

I rubbed my chin as I thought that over. After our engagement on the Carly Wilde show went viral, things had been more chaotic than ever. Helicopters, chasing paparazzi"none of it had let up in the months since I"d proposed to Dylan live on air. Not that I regretted it"it had been perfect timing, the perfect moment to tell my man, and the world, that I wanted us forever.
